Why Green Computing is the Need of the Hour

green accounting
Green computing is a new concept that has received a lot of attention lately. There is a great concern around the world about the damage done by computers, printers, routers and other old electronics to the environment.
Many organizations are deeply worried about adding to the carbon footprint. There is also a concern that the servers used by many companies consume more power than they should.  Green computing is a new way of doing things that are aimed to make computing more environmental friendly.

Why is Green Computing more important than ever before?

The world faces a major problem in global warming. A lot of countries are deeply worried about their depleting natural resources and the rise in the amount of electronic waste. Electronic waste or e-waste is a major threat to the environment. Millions of tons of old electronics are collected in landfills in cities across the world. This is an extremely toxic waste. It is very dangerous and can lead to several deadly diseases.
That is why a serious attempt has to be made to recycle old electronics rather than dumping them into the trash. A serious attempt is being made around the world to switch to green computing and use renewable sources of energy such as solar and wind energy.

What does Green Computing hope to achieve?

Is it just a fact that the world is running out of critical resources. Green computing aims to make the most efficient use of scarce resources in an attempt to save the environment.  The goal is to minimize the use of scarce resources as much as possible and take advantage of new technologies such as Virtualization and cloud computing.
One of the ways to do that is to switch to clean energy options such as solar, thermal and wind energy. The switch to renewable energy sources couldn’t have come at a better time as producing electrical energy from fossil fuels is today more expensive than at any time in the past. There is today a great demand for alternative solutions, which is why green computing is a step in the right direction.

How to implement Green Computing?

There are many ways to get the world moving in the direction of green computing.  The question to be asked is whether green computing can meet your business requirements. The success of virtualization, which really is a shining example of green computing, although it wasn’t originally intended to be, shows that green computing can indeed be a positive factor for businesses.  A number of cloud computing companies have adapted to green computing by using only renewable sources of energy to power their data centers and by following energy efficient policies.

Cloud Computing is the best example of Green Computing

Cloud computing is perhaps the greatest example of green computing. That’s because cloud computing is based on a technology called virtualization that involves creating a virtual version of computer hardware platforms, storage devices and computer networks. Cloud computing reduces the dependence on the traditional server architecture, which has been extremely damaging to the environment and has added to the carbon footprint.
