We are currently witnessing a technology-driven business era where data centers are acting as the backbone of every firm. The advanced and secured data centers of the modern-day era are acting as the foundation of growth and seamlessness for many businesses.
With technology serving as a driving force of growth for businesses, it becomes obvious that businesses are totally dependent on their data center.

The drift of business efficiency is resulting in an increased infrastructural investment because of the IT department's efficiency. In order to step ahead of the other players, businesses have now started using burgeoning data centers But the advantages of data centers are not only limited to providing competitive edge but it also facilitates the operational efficiency and seamlessness in the organization.

During the past few years, the energy consumption of data centers has burgeoned with every data center consuming hundred times more energy than before. This increase in the consumption of energy is basically a result of the race to match the changing technological landscape and fulfilling the demand of increasing number of businesses.

But you should know that the mushrooming size and number of equipment in the data center have worsened the infrastructure conditions. The high power source and even the advanced cooling system are not able to cope up with this increasing number of equipment in the data centers. In addition to the increasing load on the data center, the complexity of data center design is also increasing. In this type of condition, using top practices in data center design has become paramount. And this is what we are going to address in this blog post.

Space

In addition to facilitating the flexibility and scalability, infrastructure should also encourage the right sizing of the data center as well. You should know that the available space is one of the most crucial assets of any data center and that’s why every data center should utilize the available space wisely.

Just filling up space with many heavy equipment will not guarantee the optimal performance. This is why any data center shouldn’t only be built for source accommodation but for space accommodation as well. Using cabinets and racks that can support massive objects, going for cables with smaller outer dimensions, opting for space solutions that provide support to overhead pathways are some of the best ways to utilize the space in the data center.

Sustainability

When it comes to sustainability in data center design then different experts have a different perspective for it. It is true that the importance of sustainability varies with resource and environmental issues but because of the increasing demand, it has become an integral part of impeccable data center design and planning.

In data center design, sustainability refers to the proper utilization of natural resources before its complete exhaustion. Although this type of sustainability is not the first priority for most of the businesses by adopting it in the data center, you can harness various advantages. By using this approach, you can build solutions that can be easily translated into flexible space designs while minimizing environmental impact.

Modularity and time

An ideal data center should be able to adjust to changing IT landscape and shift according to the changing demands without any hassle. You will have to make sure that the data center alteration is not only cost-effective but it is easy as well. For doing so, you will have to make sure that you use an infrastructure solution that optimizes time.

But using over-sized and over-crowded infrastructure is not the right way of expansion. At the same time, the design of the data center should facilitate topologies like the top of racks, middle of the racks and end of the racks. In order to make sure that your data center adapts to these types of topologies, you will have to go for the modular design solution. In modular design, all the equipment of a data center works in collaboration with each other.

Performance

The importance of robust infrastructure is neglected when companies shift to high-density computing systems, high power IT resources and IT virtualization. The main purpose of robust infrastructure is to not only provide seamless application efficiency but also improve the overall performance of the data center.

By using top practices in the data center design, one can improve the overall performance of the data center and increase its productivity as well. In order to improve the overall performance, you will need to focus on three main parts of data center design; cabling racks and cabinets. Using cabinets and racks as building blocks, choosing the right cable management and patching outside the racks are some of the best practices to enhance the overall performance of the data center through its design.

The data center design plays an important role in how the data center will function. With the progress of time, many new practices have been introduced in the data center and that’s why you need to keep tabs on the latest trends in data center design.
